About Hooked on Slate

For centuries slate roofing has proven to be the longest lasting steep slope roofing system in the world.

Traditionally in North America we have installed most slate roofs with 2 nails per slate, while in Europe many of the slate roofs have been installed with hooks for more than 300 years (before the American Revolution).

During a recent tour in Europe it was explained that France is the largest slate roofing consumer in the entire world and their most common installation is a hooked slate installation.

Why hooked slate installation?

  • Reduces any slate shedding
  • Allows slate to move slightly as the building moves
  • Each of our hooks are rated for over 850 lbs of ice load PER individual hook
  • Dramatically reduces the installation time and cost
  • Slate roofs are already very wind resistant but with the butterfly hook the wind resistance increase greatly and ties the whole roof together

Our hook installation systems can provide a real slate traditional 3 inch headlap installation or a Light Weight real slate installation
