For centuries slate roofing has proven to be the longest lasting steep slope roofing system in the world.
Traditionally in North America we have installed most slate roofs with 2 nails per slate, while in Europe many of the slate roofs have been installed with hooks for more than 300 years (before the American Revolution).
During a recent tour in Europe it was explained that France is the largest slate roofing consumer in the entire world and their most common installation is a hooked slate installation.
Why hooked slate installation?
- Reduces any slate shedding
- Allows slate to move slightly as the building moves
- Each of our hooks are rated for over 850 lbs of ice load PER individual hook
- Dramatically reduces the installation time and cost
- Slate roofs are already very wind resistant but with the butterfly hook the wind resistance increase greatly and ties the whole roof together
Our hook installation systems can provide a real slate traditional 3 inch headlap installation or a Light Weight real slate installation
